Getting Started
Getting Started: How the Setup Guide Works
Immediately after installing and opening Affilitrak, you will see a Setup Guide card on your dashboard. This guide walks you through five (5) steps to get your affiliate program up and running. Each step has a checkbox, a short description, and a button that takes you to the right place in the app.
You can work through the steps in any order, but the order they appear in is the recommended sequence.
At the top of the guide, you will see a progress bar and a counter (for example, "2 out of 5 completed") so you always know where you stand.
The Five Steps

1\. Setup Program
This is the first step in the setup guide and it is also where you define your programs “commission structure.” Commissions determine how much your affiliates earn when they drive a sale, so this should be set up before you start inviting anyone as an affiliate.
Go ahead and click the "Setup Program" button and it will take you to the Programs page, where you can create tiers, set commission rates.
Once you have created at least one program tier, this step will be marked as complete automatically the next time the dashboard loads.
2\. Configure Affiliate Portal
Your affiliate portal is where your affiliates log in to see their stats, grab their referral links, setup and manage coupon codes, and also manage their account. Before they can do any of that, you need to connect the portal to a subdomain and set up your domain to send branded emails.
Clicking "Configure Portal" takes you to the Settings page, where you will find the portal configuration options.
The portal subdomain feature is turned on by default but you can reach out to our support team to turn the feature on for you.
Setting up the portal domain after the feature is turned on is also a little bit technical for regular users due to the way the domain name system works. That ’s why we 24/7 offer support on how to set it up no matter the domain provider you use for your store.
Once your portal subdomain is saved, this step will be marked as complete automatically.
3\. Create Coupon Template
Coupon templates let your affiliates offer discounts to their audience. This can help increase conversion rates and makes it easier to track which affiliate drove which sale.
Clicking "Create Coupon Template" takes you to the coupon creation page under Programs.
If you do not plan to use coupons, you can click "Skip (Not Using)" to mark this step as done without creating one. You can always come back and create coupon templates later from the Programs section.
4\. Add Your First Affiliate
Now it is time to bring someone on board. You have two options:
Add manually by email: Click "Add affiliate" to go to the affiliate creation page, where you can enter their details directly.
Share your registration link: If you have already configured your portal subdomain in Step 2, a registration link will appear in this step. You can share it with potential affiliates so they can sign up on their own through your portal.
This step is marked as complete once at least one affiliate exists in your account, whether you added them yourself or they registered through the portal.
5\. Test Purchase
This is the final step. Running a test purchase lets you confirm that affiliate tracking is working correctly before you go live. You’ll start that by clicking on "Start Test Purchase" which takes you to the manual order creation tool, where you can simulate a purchase attributed to one of your affiliates.
Note: this button is disabled until you have added at least one affiliate (Step 4). You need an affiliate in the system for the purchase to be attributed to.
Once any purchase with an affiliate attribution exists in your account, this step is marked as complete automatically.
How Progress Gets Tracked
There are two ways a step gets marked as done:
1. Automatically; Every time the dashboard loads, the app checks your actual data so if you have a program tier, a configured portal, an affiliate, a coupon template, or an attributed purchase, the corresponding step is marked as complete, even if you did not go through the setup guide to do it.
2. Manually; Each step has a circle icon on the left side and clicking it toggles the step between done and not done. This is useful if you want to mark something as complete on your own terms, or unmark it if you want to revisit it.
Collapsing and Expanding Steps
Clicking on a step expands it to show the description and action buttons, and collapses whatever was open before. You can also collapse the entire guide using the arrow button in the top-right corner of the card. Reopening it will automatically expand the first incomplete step and only one step can be expanded at a time.

Dismissing the Guide
Once all five steps are complete, a "Dismiss Guide" button appears at the bottom of the card. Clicking it hides the setup guide permanently.
You can also dismiss it at any time, even before finishing, by clicking the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and selecting "Don't show this again."
If you ever want to bring the guide back, navigate to the Programs page with “?showsg” at the end of the URL will restore it.
Also, if you uninstall and reinstall the app, the setup guide will reappear automatically.
